Phonics Coordinator (Level Two)

Start Date: 1 September 2022

Grade 5 Point 13 (FTE £22,111 - Pro Rata £18,828) - Grade 6 Point 17

(FTE £25,563 - Pro Rata £21,767)

32.5 hours per week Monday – Friday, Term Time + 5 training days.

39 weeks per year.

 

The University Academy Long Sutton is a popular 11 - 16 years Academy in the rural market town of Long Sutton, and is part of The University of Lincoln Academy Trust. This may bring the opportunity to work across 2 sites.

Due to an increase in numbers we are currently seeking to appoint a suitable experienced Phonics Coordinator to support a variety of pupils. this role would be suitable to an experienced TA or a graduate considering entering the teaching profession.

The role would require the successful applicant to:

  • Lead, deliver, plan and manage the organisation of the Read Write Inc Phonics programme across the school to pupils in Year 7 to 11 whose reading is below their chronological age or deliver appropriate literacy interventions for older pupils (training will be offered).
  • Be accountable for pupil progress and attainment levels in phonics.
  • Follow a graduated approach for the intervention (Assess, Plan, Do, Review) effectively monitoring and tracking the progress made.
  • Manage the logistics, admin and progress data for all students undertaking the programme. 
  • Report regularly on the progress of all pupils accessing intervention. 
  • Train additional staff in the programme so that we build capacity.
  • Liaising with SENCO to ensure SEN or EAL is not a barrier to accessing intervention support.
  • Work in partnership with key staff to ensure effective communication and knowledge is shared in a systematic approach to enhance pupil progress e.g. Librarian, Senior Teacher: Teaching and Learning, Senior Teacher of Literacy
  • To provide ad hoc space/support for pupils who need to spend time working intensely to ‘catch up’. 
  • To be aware of and respond to the pastoral needs of pupils.
  • To effectively communicate with parent/carers.
  • To contribute to the wider life of the school i.e. form tutor, enrichment, duties, and parents’ evenings.

The successful applicant will be required to have good literacy and numeracy skills, with a minimum requirement of GCSE at Grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
